Global insurance and reinsurance brokerage and risk advisor Aon has appointed Michael Mahoney as head of the Northeast region and co-head of the United States, effective August 1, 2026.
Upon joining the brokerage, Mahoney will serve on Aon’s executive committee while retaining his seat on the North American executive committee.
In his new role, Mahoney will also lead one of Aon’s “most dynamic and strategically important” U.S. markets, driving growth and creating value for clients.
He will help set strategic direction for the brokerage’s largest regional market, working with venture capital and human capital to drive Aon’s joint strategy forward and help clients achieve their goals.
Most recently, Mahoney served as U.S. Chief Commercial Officer, strengthening business discipline and accelerating growth in business risk, health, wealth and talent. He is supporting the process of appointing a new leader and will remain in office until the process is complete.
Mahoney has nearly three decades of industry experience. During Aon’s 15-year tenure, he held a variety of leadership roles in sales, account leadership, commercial strategy and territory management, while building high-performing teams, deep customer relationships and a proven track record of driving business growth.
Prior to his current role, he served as head of commercial risk sales for North America and head of the western region. Earlier in his career, he held brokerage and client leadership roles in financial operations and management responsibilities.
Anne Corona, CEO of Aon North America, commented on the appointment: “Michael is an exceptional leader who combines deep business acumen with an unwavering commitment to clients and colleagues. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated an ability to inspire teams, develop talent and help clients navigate complex situations with confidence. His growth mindset, collaborative leadership style and passion for delivering exceptional client outcomes make him uniquely positioned to lead our Northeast region and help shape the future of our U.S. business.”
Mahoney added, “I’m honored to take on these new roles and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our clients and colleagues in new ways. The momentum in our business is strong and I’m excited to build on it and help clients make better decisions, build resilience and achieve their goals. I look forward to working with our talented teams across the Northeast and the broader U.S. to deliver meaningful value to clients and accelerate growth.”
