It seems not everyone is convinced by rumours that Jack Lowden is set to become the next James Bond.
While speculation about who will play 007 in the next Bond movie has been rife for what feels like forever, in recent history, reports have suggested it’s been narrowed down to a contest between the Slow Horses actor and Heartstopper’s Jack Barton.
During a new interview with The Telegraph, comedian and actor Nick Mohammed – who became part of the Slow Horses cast last year – was put on the spot about Jack potentially taking over the role of the iconic MI6 agent.
“Like I would know,” he responded with a laugh. “But also I just suspect not.”
Nick continued: “I would love it to be true. I sort of don’t think it is.
“I’d heard rumours – as everyone heard rumours – that it was going to be a younger Bond, that they wanted someone possibly more in their late 20s rather than in their 30s. So we’ll see.”
Less convinced is author Charlie Higson, who penned the spin-off novels Young Bond.
“I like [Jack Lowden], but it’s like when Tom Hiddleston was in the running – not a convincing hand-to-hand fighter,” the writer said during a recent interview.
“With Daniel Craig you can believe him kicking the shit out of someone. And you’ve got to believe that with Bond.”
Besides the two Jacks, other big names still believed to be in the frame for the role of James Bond include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Paul Mescal.
Producer Amy Pascal shared earlier this year that the team was looking for “something really different” when it comes to the next James Bond, and was keeping an eye out for someone “stirring and exciting and different”.
