Starwind Specialty, a North American programme management company and one of the region’s largest programme management operations, has introduced Starwind Private Client, a dedicated underwriting platform focused on the insurance needs of high-net-worth individuals and families undertaking complex residential property projects.
The company said the new platform has been developed to provide specialist underwriting expertise, tailored cover and disciplined risk selection for property risks that may fall outside the scope of conventional insurance markets.
Its first product, Private Client Construction, is a standalone owner-named Builders Risk policy designed for bespoke home construction and renovation projects with completed values of up to $30 million.
The product is supported by insurance paper rated A or higher by A.M. Best at the point of binding. The company said the policy provides all-risk protection for buildings under construction, existing structures and construction materials, while also offering a range of optional coverages. It added that the product is underpinned by flexible underwriting, technology-driven pricing, catastrophe exposure management and loss prevention support.
“Starwind Private Client represents an important expansion of our underwriting platform and our commitment to delivering specialised solutions for underserved segments of the market,” commented Alex Bonds, Co-President of Starwind Specialty “High-net-worth clients often face complex risks that require a more customised approach. By combining technical underwriting, responsive service, and thoughtful product design, we are creating solutions that help brokers address those needs with confidence.”
Starwind Specialty said Private Client Construction is intended to support a variety of residential developments, including new home construction, significant refurbishment projects, extensions, repairs and the rebuilding of homes following insured losses. The company added that the underwriting approach is designed to accommodate properties in catastrophe-prone areas, high-profile homeowners and other projects requiring individual assessment.
“For high-net-worth clients, building or renovating a custom home involves more complexity, more uncertainty, and ultimately more at stake,” added Bryan Luker, Program President.
“We designed our proprietary policy form to combine the mechanics of Builders Risk with the coverage expectations of the private client marketplace. Every project is underwritten on its own merits, giving us the flexibility to address the realities of luxury residential construction, from mid-project change orders and construction delays to complex contractual requirements and responsive claims support when something goes wrong.
“Our goal is to simplify the placement of a niche class of business that has historically been viewed as an underwriting exception, while delivering the service brokers and their clients expect.”
Beyond underwriting, Starwind Specialty said the platform includes on-site risk management inspections at key stages of construction, project-specific loss prevention measures and claims advocacy provided by experienced property claims professionals. The company said these services are intended to support brokers and clients throughout the lifecycle of high-value residential construction projects.
