Echo Reinsurance Limited (Echo Re), a Swiss-based reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Rajil Khare as Senior Underwriter for the Indian Subcontinent, effective June 22, 2026.
The company said his appointment further strengthens Echo Re’s presence in the fast-growing Indian market.
While the reinsurer has maintained a steady presence in India for more than a decade, its regional expansion has accelerated recently.
In March 2026, Echo Re received approval from India’s International Financial Services Center Authority (IFSCA) to set up a reinsurance branch in the Gujarat International Financial Technology City (GIFT City) to strengthen its operational capabilities in key markets.
Khare brings in-depth expertise in the Indian re/insurance market to Echo Re, backed by a proven track record with key industry players.
Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Head of Reinsurance, Commercial Underwriting Data Analytics, Liberty General Insurance Ltd.
He joined Liberty India from HDFC Ergo General Insurance and joined the company in 2021 as Assistant Vice President, Reinsurance and Underwriting and was later appointed as Deputy Vice President, both based in the company’s Mumbai office.
In 2024, Khare was promoted to Vice President, Reinsurance and Underwriting, HDFC Ergo. During his tenure, he was responsible for leading reinsurance across all lines of business and overseeing commercial underwriting for the property vertical, among other responsibilities.
The executive also spent nearly three years with AXA XL as treaty underwriter in the Property, Marine, Casualty and Crops business areas of XLICSE India.
Prior to this, he was an analyst at XL Catlin prior to the AXA acquisition. Prior to that, he spent six years at HDFC Ergo, managing FAC (temporary) placement, underwriting (property and casualty) and reinsurance/claims/underwriting data analytics for global clients.
