One of Netflix’s most popular hidden treasures returned for its fourth season last week.

The mystery thriller Lupin earned rave reviews and a loyal global following when it debuted in 2021, with its latest iteration continuing that streak with a coveted 100% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing (it should perhaps be noted that viewers seem decidedly less impressed with the new episodes, which hold a fan score of just 18% based on more than 50 ratings, and a 1.8 out of 10 rating on Metacritic).

By now, long-standing fans of the show will have had plenty of time to make their way through all eight of the latest chapters in Assane Diop’s story, and may be left wondering if more could be in store.

Will there be a Lupin season 5 on Netflix?

At the time of writing, Netflix is yet to make an official announcement about Lupin’s future, but signs look positive for more instalments.

Since season four premiered, Lupin has been consistently hovering around the top of Netflix UK’s most-watched chart – a rarity for a French-language series.

What’s more, Lupin’s fourth season ended on one of the show’s biggest cliffhangers to date, with Assane’s life seemingly hanging in the balance after being shot.

And even if Netflix hasn’t given Lupin the green light for a fifth season, the show’s creative team has still got the wheels in motion on putting together new adventures.

Unfortunately, given the three-year break between seasons three and four, viewers may well need un peu de patience while they wait for new instalments.

Omar Sy as Assane Diop in Lupin

Lupin stars Omar Sy as anti-hero Assane Diop, a high-end thief who models himself on the Maurice Leblanc character Arsène Lupin.

It was one of several French shows that became popular during the Covid lockdowns of the early 2020s.

The first four seasons of Lupin are now streaming on Netflix.
