Ballet icon Wayne Sleep has disclosed that he’s currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

Wayne shared his diagnosis in an Instagram post over the weekend, after “a few people” commented that he hadn’t looked his “usual self” of late.

“A few people have commented that I haven’t been looking quite my usual self recently, so I thought I would share an update,” he wrote alongside a picture of himself visiting Kew Gardens days earlier.

“Since the summer, I have been undergoing treatment for cancer. I’m pleased to say that the treatment appears to be working, and I am on the mend thanks to all at the Royal Marsden and am looking forward to getting back to full strength.”

The former Celebrity Big Brother star added: “I’m in good spirits and feeling positive about the future. Thank you to everyone for their kindness and concern.”

Wayne was previously diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015, which was treated using brachytherapy.

Brachytherapy is a process which the NHS has described as “a type of radiotherapy treatment in which small sealed amounts of radiation are placed inside” the body to kill cancer cells.

He later became an ambassador for the charity Prostate Cancer UK.

Wayne rose to fame as a member of the Royal Ballet, famously sharing the stage with Princess Diana for a surprise performance at a gala show in 1985, and also forming part of the original cast of Cats, in which he played Mr Mistoffelees.

His autobiography, Precious Little Sleep, was first published in 1996.
