Indian public sector reinsurer General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) has appointed Hitesh Rameshchandra Joshi as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with effect from June 16, 2026, a position he held on an interim basis from October 1, 2025.
The reinsurer notified the country’s Ministry of Finance that the appointment had been approved by the central government in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1. Article 83 of the Articles of Association.
He will hold the new position till the date of superannuation (September 30, 2028) or further orders, whichever is earlier.
Previously, Joshi served as Executive Director (ED) of GIC Re. As Executive Director, he is responsible for Human Resource Management, International Business Operations, Information Technology, Vigilance Compliance, Vertical Claims, Audit & Compliance (internal and CAG), Budget, Right to Information, Grievance Redressal & Complaints, Legal, M&A, Digital Team, Business Intelligence Unit (BIU), Actuary and Office Support Services.
Joshi is a member of Insurance Institute of India. During his tenure at GIC Re, he assumed various tasks across all key functions.
His responsibilities include reinsurance (domestic and international inbound business), retrocession, finance, enterprise risk management, budgetary control and strategic planning, internal audit, credit ratings, investor relations and serves as CMD Executive Assistant to GIC Re.
