Falvey Insurance reshapes finance leadership and expands cargo underwriting team

Falvey Insurance Group, an insurance provider specialising in marine and cargo risks, has announced several changes to its senior leadership, cargo underwriting team and Board of Directors.

The appointments combine internal promotions with new hires who bring experience in insurance finance, marine underwriting and commercial risk management.

Rob Bell joined Falvey Insurance Group as Chief Financial Officer on 19 October. He brings more than 25 years of experience in property and casualty insurance finance. Before joining Falvey, Bell served as Chief Financial Officer at PMA Companies. He previously held a finance leadership role at Travelers, overseeing a division that included inland and ocean marine insurance.

As part of the changes, Mike Edwards has moved into the role of Chief Investment Officer, taking responsibility for Falvey’s investment activities. Edwards joined the company in 2000 and became Chief Financial Officer in 2003. Julie Hencler has also taken on an expanded role, having been promoted to Executive Vice President, Group Ginance.

She has been involved in leading the company’s finance operations since 2005 and will now oversee its day-to-day financial management. Falvey said Bell, Edwards and Hencler will work together across their respective areas of responsibility.

The company has also strengthened its cargo underwriting team with the appointments of Max Reilly and Dylan Edelson as Assistant Vice Presidents, Underwriting.

Both have backgrounds in cargo and marine underwriting gained through experience with major international insurers. In their new positions, they will work with Falvey’s carrier partners and brokers on complex risks and cases requiring timely underwriting decisions, according to the company.

Kristy Furrer joined Falvey Insurance Group’s Board of Directors earlier this year. Furrer is a Senior Vice President at Woodruff Sawyer, a Gallagher company, and has more than 25 years of experience advising commercial clients on risk assessment and management.

Jack Falvey, Chief Executive Officer of Falvey Insurance Group, commented: “Falvey has grown by putting the best people in the best roles and today is about doing that at every level of the company. In finance, we’re pairing people who helped build Falvey with new experience from across the industry. Mike has led our finances for more than two decades, and there’s no one I trust more with our investments.

He added: “Julie has earned the chance to run our financial operations day to day, and Rob brings deep insurance finance experience and a real feel for the marine business. Together, they’re a finance team I’m proud of. On our cargo desk, Max and Dylan add seasoned underwriting talent, which our brokers will notice. And in the boardroom, Kristy brings sharp risk-management judgment. Each of these moves makes us better at what we do for our brokers and carrier partners.”
