Bradley Walsh is set to front a one-off quiz show event for Channel 4 this weekend.
However, many eagle-eyed fans have been left pondering whether the whole thing is a “massive hoax”.
According to Channel 4, Million Pound Shot will see three “plucky contestants” stepping up for a chance to win a life-changing sum of up to £1 million.
In front of a live studio audience, players will apparently take their shot at a life-changing amount of money, in a game of “nerve and instinct” that asks contestants: “How much can you trust your gut when it really counts?” “When a million pounds is within reach – would you take the shot?” an official synopsis teases.
Million Pound Shot will also feature a “huge secret twist”, and promises “a night of drama” unlike anything Bradley has hosted before, featuring “tension, big moments and a curveball that the audience won’t see coming”.
Since the project was announced, fans have been going wild on social media while trying to guess what that “secret twist” could be – with some suspecting the show might be a front for something more experimental, or even a Ghostwatch-style hoax.
“Everything about it feels like it isn’t a real TV show, and is actually going to be some sort of surprise/twist,” read a post on a British TV subreddit.
Million Pound Shot’s nine o’clock airtime and lack of promotional clips have also led social media users to theorise what could really be happening
“That’s got suss all over it!” another Reddit user commented, while someone else suggested that the “mysterious synopsis with no detail as to what the format actually entails does seem like there’s something more to it”.
Chuck Thomas, host of The TV Podcast, also put forward his own theories about the Sunday night show in an X thread.
“Is Bradley Walsh’s new Channel 4 quiz show actually a massive television hoax? Something very strange is happening at Channel 4,” he wrote. “Channel 4 is promising extraordinary drama, tension and life-changing outcomes, with a huge secret viewers won’t see coming.”
