Sir Tom Jones has updated his fans after rescheduling two live shows due to ill health.
The Welsh music icon told his Instagram followers that he is “truly sorry” for postponing shows in Los Angeles and San Diego that had been scheduled for this week as the result of “a bad case of the flu”.
In a post on social media on Tuesday, the 86-year-old wrote: “Following doctor’s advice, I unfortunately have to reschedule tonight’s show in Los Angeles and tomorrow’s show in San Diego.”
The It’s Not Unusual singer is nearing the end of his Come Gather Round Tour, which was originally supposed to conclude with a show in San Francisco on 1 November.
“I’ve had a great time these last few weeks, completing 20 shows and singing for wonderful audiences across the USA, but unexpectedly I’ve been hit with a bad case of the flu,” he said.
On “doctor’s advice”, he confirmed that Monday’s Greek Theatre show will now take place on Wednesday 4 November, his show at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park has been postponed until Tuesday 3 November.
Sir Tom’s Instagram post went out just hours before he had been due to perform at the Greek Theatre, with the Los Angeles venue among those encouraging the legendary performer to “get well soon” in the comments.
“I’m truly sorry for any inconvenience caused. I look forward to seeing you all soon,” Sir Tom concluded.
This news comes a month after the Grammy-winning singer revealed he had been “fired” from The Voice UK due to what he described as “financial difficulty with insurance.”
“I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience,” he insisted. “ITV made this decision – obviously a while ago, and I was told just recently.”
He claimed: “The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance. They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me
Responding to Sir Tom’s comments, ITV thanked the “irreplaceable” crooner for his 14 years on the singing competition “and the countless incredible, unforgettable moments he gave the show”.
“He has brought joy to audiences, and to every singer who performed for him and with him,” they added.
