Bermuda-based global insurance and reinsurance company Arch Capital Group Ltd. has promoted Jerome Halgan to chief executive officer (CEO) of Arch Global Reinsurance Group and appointed Michael Schmeiser to chief executive officer of Arch Global Mortgage Group.

In their new roles, Halgan and Schmeiser will continue to report to Arch Capital President Maamoun Rajeh.

Halgan joined the reinsurance company in 2009 and has served as President and Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Reinsurance Group since 2024 and as Chief Executive Officer of Arch Re Bermuda since 2018.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue building Arch’s global reinsurance platform alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry,” said Halgan. “Our approach remains consistent: employ disciplined underwriting, carefully manage cycles and deepen relationships with brokers and cedants. This foundation enables us to deliver the insights and solutions our clients need and grow the business long-term.”

Schmeiser joined the company in 2017 and has served as President and CEO of Arch US Mortgage since 2019.

“I am proud to take on this role, leading the world’s foremost provider of mortgage credit risk solutions,” said Schmeisser. “Our diverse business is underpinned by analytical rigor, strong relationships and deep experience unparalleled in the industry. I look forward to applying my knowledge of the U.S. business to our other global mortgage businesses and working more closely with our teams around the world.”

The promotions follow an announcement in early June that Raj’s president responsibilities were expanded to include oversight of its insurance division. Arch has confirmed that Matt Shulman, CEO of Arch Insurance North America, and Hugh Sturgess, CEO of Arch Insurance International, will continue to report to Rajeh.

Commenting on the latest appointments, Rajeh said: “Jerome and Michael are both experienced leaders who are deeply rooted in Arch’s underwriting culture and corporate values and have consistently performed well throughout market cycles.

“Both men have meaningfully contributed to the strength of our global platform through disciplined capital deployment and strong relationships. Their leadership will help us continue to activate Arch’s deep talent pool, execute consistently, and position us to create long-term value for our customers and shareholders.”
