Major major carrier Zurich Insurance Group has expanded the availability of Data Center Project Guard, a comprehensive insurance and risk management solution for large-scale construction projects, to meet the growing needs of customers around the world for coordinated protection.

The solution’s successful debut in the United States saw Zurich underwrite more than 245 data center construction projects in 2025 alone, and the solution is currently being rolled out in Brazil, Germany, Italy, Northern Europe and Spain, with further expansion planned to other markets in 2026.

The insurer said the expansion is in line with market conditions, with global data center infrastructure spending expected to exceed $7 trillion by 2030 as developers compete to build massive capacity across multiple countries and regulatory environments.

Data Center Project Protection combines contractor’s full-risk coverage with optional third-party liability, advance profit loss/startup delay, and transitional operations coverage to address the risks posed by data center construction.

Additionally, coverage is structured to comply with local regulatory requirements while providing consistent protection across jurisdictions.

Kelly Kinzer, Global Head of Construction and Assurance at Zurich, commented: “We are seeing unprecedented growth in data center construction, driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the need for greater computing power. These are highly complex projects that require specialist expertise.

“With Data Center Project Guard, we provide customers with consistent end-to-end protection, backed by leading underwriting and risk engineering capabilities and decades of technical risk expertise.”

As part of the Data Center Project Guard offering, Zurich Resilience Solutions provides targeted risk engineering and consulting support throughout the construction lifecycle, from project planning to completion, helping customers increase operational resiliency and reduce risk before issues arise.
