Since its release in 2003, Finding Nemo has gone on to become on of Pixar’s most popular films ever, thanks in no small part to its stellar voice work from some huge Hollywood stars.
As well as leading performances delivered by Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres, the film also featured the likes of Willem Dafoe, Allison Janney, Stephen Root and the late Barry Humphries.
However, as well as these big names, it turns out there was another A-lister who was almost part of the film.
Emmy winner Megan Mullally was briefly cast as one of the residents of the dentist’s fish tank, where some of the film’s most memorable scenes take place.
However, she was let go from the role because her voice wasn’t quite what the creators had in mind.
Why Megan Mullally was fired from Finding Nemo
Megan shot to international fame thanks to her role as the iconic Karen Walker in Will & Grace.
Megan’s performance is a real highlight of the show thanks to Karen’s shrill voice and flamboyant personality.
However, that unique voice isn’t quite what Megan’s sounds like in real life – which producers seemingly didn’t realise when they cast her in the undisclosed role.
Speaking on The Wayne Brady Show back in 2004, Megan claimed she was let go from Finding Nemo when she refused to speak in her high-pitched Karen Walker voice for the movie.
Megan recalled telling the movie’s creative team: “Wait a minute: You’re telling me you want this fish who lives in a fish tank in a dentist’s office to be a fictitious character from an NBC sitcom?”
“I mean, it just doesn’t make any sense to me,” she added.
