USAA names Andrew J. Pinkes to Board of Directors

USAA, an American financial services company serving military personnel, veterans and their families through insurance, banking, investments and retirement products, has appointed Andrew J. Pinkes to its Board of Directors, effective May 29, 2026.

Pincus has more than three decades of experience in the insurance industry, with expertise in claims management, legal matters, risk oversight, operational leadership and business transformation, the company said.

According to USAA, Pincus has held a series of executive and board-level positions throughout his career in the property and casualty insurance industry. His previous roles include Interim CEO of CLARA Analytics and Acting Head of Commercial Markets at The Hartford.

He also served as executive vice president of CNA Insurance, XL Group and The Hartford. Earlier in his career, Pinkes served as senior vice president and general counsel of Travelers Insurance Company’s special liability group and later became global CEO of Randall & Quilter’s estate insurance division. USAA notes that he has led multiple transformation and operational improvement initiatives focused on strengthening organizational performance and enhancing the customer experience.

USAA Board Chairman, U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Jim Zortman (Ret.) said in announcing the appointment: “Andy is a seasoned leader who understands USAA’s mission and the members we serve. As a USAA Member 30 Over the years, he and his family have experienced first-hand the trust and commitment that has defined this organization. He brings good judgment, humility and a strong operational background to the board. He will help USAA as he leads an organization responsible for supporting people during some of the most difficult times in their lives.”

USAA said Pincus currently serves on several corporate and advisory boards in the insurance and technology sectors. He received his bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College and his law degree from Western New England University School of Law.

The company also emphasized that it will continue to value military representation in its workforce and leadership. USAA said more than half of its directors have served in the military, while nearly 25% of employees are veterans or military spouses.

According to the company, this approach helps inform the development of products, services and communications designed to support the military community. USAA added that recent efforts include government shutdown relief programs and returning $3.8 billion in member value through distributions, dividends, bank rebates and incentives.
