Global reinsurer Swiss Re has promoted company veteran Torben Swart to managing director (MD) and appointed him head of technology and operational excellence for Asia Pacific (APAC) ex China, effective August 1, 2026.
In his new role, Swart will help drive underwriting excellence, enhance operational capabilities and support business growth and resiliency.
The newly created role reflects the reinsurer’s commitment to enhancing technical excellence, operational effectiveness and sustainable performance across the Asia-Pacific market.
He will remain based in Hong Kong and will also serve as head of Swiss Re’s Hong Kong branch.
Swart has been with Swiss Re for more than ten years and has held a range of leadership roles in the Life & Health (L&H) business in Europe and Asia.

Swart also served as Swiss Re’s Global Division Key Account Manager, Head of Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA) Business Development and Head of EMEA L&H Business Development.
He began his career as a vice president at McKinsey & Company.
