Global reinsurer Swiss Re has appointed Benjamin (Ben) Savill as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Australia and New Zealand, based in Sydney, with effect from 1 October 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
In his new role, Saville succeeds Trent Thomson, who was appointed global head of specialty reinsurance at Swiss Re earlier this year.
Savills has nearly three decades of industry experience across multiple vertical markets.
Most recently, he served as Pacific CEO to Guy Carpenter, a global risk and reinsurance specialist and business unit at Marsh McLennan.
Prior to this, he served as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Convex Insurance Bermuda for nearly four years.
Previously, Savills served as Chief Executive Officer and Group Chief Operating Officer of Fidelis Insurance. He began his career with Amlin plc in the UK in 1997 as an underwriter and subsequently worked with the company for over 18 years.
Urs Baertschi, CEO of Swiss Re Property & Casualty (P&C) Re, commented on the appointment: “Combining executive leadership with deep technical expertise, Ben’s knowledge and broad industry perspective will enable us to continue to support our customers and partners in this important market.”
