There was a time not all that long ago when Callum Turner looked like the hot favourite to become the next James Bond.
However, with an announcement on the identity of the next James Bond expected imminently, former 007 Pierce Brosnan has revealed that Callum still definitely has his backing.
Asked by Vanity Fair if he’s following the media reports surrounding James Bond, Pierce said: “I’m just an audience member now. I’m just the man in the street who is eager to see who is going to play this epic role of cinematic history.”
He went on to say that “all the men” on the rumoured shortlist “are actors I admire” but gave a special shout-out to Callum.
“Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong,” he enthused, adding: “They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men.”
Pierce added: “Whoever plays the role, I wish him the very best of life and strength and courage.
“You know, it’s hard to tell who it would be, but I eagerly await to hear the news and the celebration of the next James Bond.”
While a lead actor is yet to be unveiled, we do know that the next James Bond film will be directed by Dune’s Denis Villeneuve, and written by Steven Knight, the award-winning creator of hit shows like Peaky Blinders and House Of Guinness.
Production company Amazon MGM previously said in a statement: “The search for the next James Bond is underway.
“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
