Sompo, a global commercial and consumer property, casualty and specialty re/insurance provider, has announced the appointment of Thierry Grieder as Senior Vice President and Head of Casualty Treaty Reinsurance for Continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa and Latin America.
Grieder brings more than a decade of market experience to his new role, most recently as Senior Vice President (SVP) Casualty Reinsurance.
He initially joined Sompo in 2022 as Vice President, Casualty Treaty Underwriters.
Prior to Sompo, Grider spent seven years at Swiss Re, joining the company as a Graduate Strategy Analyst and being appointed Corporate Strategy Analyst a year and a half later. Both positions are based in Zurich, Switzerland.
In 2017, he became a treaty underwriter at Swiss Re in Paris, and nearly two years later he was promoted to senior treaty underwriter, a position he held for three years.
Grider joins Bart van Gisegem and Elliot Paul as one of Sompo’s recent international appointments.
At the beginning of June, Van Gysegem was appointed Country Manager for Insurance for Belgium and the Netherlands, based in Brussels. The move is part of Sompo’s long-term growth plan in both countries, where it received regulatory approval last year to underwrite primary insurance.
Paul was appointed Head of UK Ocean Cargo in May. The London-based executive joins the team as the firm builds a multi-talented team of experts to improve service to clients and brokers.
