Pinion Insurance, a new technology-enabled specialty insurance company, has launched Sarrus, an upgraded, fully integrated proprietary technology platform designed to replace fragmented, outdated data exchanges in the managing general agent (MGA) space with daily portfolio visibility and audit-ready reporting.

Sarrus allows MGAs to partner with reinsurers by digitizing the flow of data and information from MGAs to carriers.

Pinion explained that the platform is built without the constraints of traditional insurance infrastructure as it operates earlier in the data chain by connecting directly to any source system and creating secure, automated and standardized operational and risk data flows between companies, MGAs and reinsurers.

The platform can also handle any system of record used by the MGA, while aiming to improve data quality at the source and give users faster access to consistent, auditable information. This launch marks Pinion’s first step in leveraging expertise to create secure, automated and standardized information flows.

Pinion explained that Sarrus provides scalable insurance data exchange capabilities by increasing data integrity, consistency and transparency. The system can ingest “heterogeneous data from disparate market participants, map it into a common structure, validate it, clean it, preserve lineage and auditability, and enable near real-time sharing of trusted information,” the company said.

The insurer is currently seeking multi-jurisdictional licenses in the US, UK and EU as well as a rating from AM Best. For the United States, nationwide environmental and social licenses will be obtained through the acquisition of an identified shell company, subject to approval by home state regulators. The company is first targeting a bundled business in the United States, which is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

Laura Baird, chief technology officer and co-founder of Pinion Group, commented: “The insurance industry is entering a period of technological change and Sarrus exemplifies what we as new entrants can build, not just by digitizing existing technology, but by shaping a more open, efficient and collaborative insurance market that helps drive the industry forward.

“This launch is not about building another proprietary platform. Rather, it is about increasing efficiency, reducing operating costs and allowing us to share more of the value we create across the entire insurance ecosystem.”

For MGA, Sarrus created month-end borders, eliminating the operational burden on MGA. For reinsurers, the platform provides faster access to clean, auditable portfolio information.

Ying Kong, Head of Data and Analytics at Pinion, added: “With Sarrus, we have created a repeatable data layer that can connect to multiple source systems, extract operational and risk data, clean and standardize this data, and make it available to authorized participants in a reliable and timely format. We are excited about the opportunity to design this product around future market conditions, rather than retrofitting technology on legacy operating models.”

Philip Vandoninck, chief underwriting officer and co-founder of Pinion, said: “The key to Sarrus is its digital data flow with market participants’ source systems. Sarrus transmits data through a controlled data service center, applies automated cleansing and transformation, and then provides standardized output through dashboards, analytical tools and controlled data sharing mechanisms.

“Before launching an insurance company, we prioritized investment in this platform so that we can reduce costs from the outset and provide better service to all partners. For MGA, Sarrus will result in a faster onboarding cycle than the market.”
