NN Group, a Dutch international financial services provider operating across insurance, pensions, banking and investment management, has confirmed that Tjeerd Bosklopper is set to become its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), following the planned departure of David Knibbe in March 2027.
The company said its Supervisory Board has put forward Bosklopper, who currently leads NN Netherlands Non-life, Bank & Technology, to succeed Knibbe. The outgoing CEO will leave NN Group on 1 March 2027 to take up a professional opportunity outside the organisation.
NN Group confirmed that the proposed appointment has secured regulatory approval from the Dutch Central Bank. Bosklopper’s formal appointment is due to take effect after the company informs its General Meeting at the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for 12 May 2027.
In the intervening period, the Supervisory Board has arranged for Bosklopper to serve as CEO-designate from 1 March 2027. According to NN Group, this arrangement will allow him to fill the vacant Executive Board position ahead of his official appointment, while ensuring compliance with the company’s articles of association.
Bosklopper joined NN Group’s Management Board in September 2018 and has since taken responsibility for several areas of its Dutch operations. His existing role covers non-life insurance, banking and technology, placing him in charge of both established financial services activities and technology-related initiatives.
NN Group noted that Bosklopper has played a central role in its Future Ready programme, which was introduced in 2024 as part of a wider effort to transform the company’s digital capabilities. His previous experience includes leadership assignments at NN and ING, spanning operations in the Netherlands and overseas. He initially entered the financial services industry through ING’s global management trainee programme.
David Cole, Chair of NN Group’s Supervisory Board, commented: “With the intended appointment of Tjeerd Bosklopper, we have found an excellent successor from within the company. Tjeerd has a deep understanding of our businesses, culture, stakeholders, and the wider industry. With his international experience and strong track record in executing transformations, we are confident he can lead NN in a time of rapid technological and societal developments, creating opportunities for future success. We wish him all the best in this new role.”
Cole further added: “We would also like to thank David Knibbe for his inspiring leadership, resulting in the strong and diversified company of today. Together with his team, David oversaw a successful transformation of NN into a growing company with leading market positions and an expanding international footprint, while maintaining a strong commercial and financial performance.
“David championed an approach that looks beyond short-term results, creating sustainable long-term value for customers, colleagues and society. On behalf of the Supervisory Board, the Management Board and all NN Group employees, I want to thank David for his contribution to NN throughout his nearly 30-year career at the company. We wish him all the best in the future.”
Bosklopper said: “It is an honour to have been offered the opportunity to be NN Group’s next CEO, and I am excited about what lies ahead. I’m very much looking forward to working with colleagues across NN, building on the strong foundation established under David’s leadership and shaping the next chapter of NN together. I am grateful to David for all he has contributed, and I wish him all the very best for what comes next.”
Knibbe added: “After almost 30 years with NN and its predecessor organisations, this is a special moment for me. I am proud of what we have achieved together by focusing on our customers, our great talent base, and by playing a positive role in society. We have transformed NN into a growing company that has delivered strong financial results, and I feel especially fortunate to have worked with many talented colleagues.
“NN is in a strong position today, reflecting the progress we have made across the company. This is the right moment for me to move on to a new challenge, after serving 13 years in the Management Board and nearly 8 years as CEO. I am particularly pleased that Tjeerd, who I have worked alongside for more than 20 years, is intended to succeed me. I would like to congratulate him and wish him, all our colleagues, and NN every success for the future.”
NN Group additionally reported that its Central Works Council has given a favourable opinion on the proposed appointment, supporting the planned change in executive leadership.
