Mayer Brown, a global law firm advising clients across business, finance and legal matters, has announced the appointment of John Grothaus as a partner in its Corporate & Securities and Global Insurance practices in Chicago. He joins the firm from Sidley Austin LLP.
Grothaus advises insurance, financial services and private equity clients on a broad range of corporate and securities matters, including mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, public and private securities offerings, reinsurance transactions and complex insurance financings.
Grothaus has extensive experience advising clients in the life insurance market, particularly on transactions involving strategic equity and hybrid capital raises, funding agreement-backed note transactions and strategic reinsurance arrangements.
His practice also covers international matters, including cross-border transactions across the Asia-Pacific region and outbound reinsurance transactions originating in the region.
The firm said Grothaus’ arrival adds to its existing capabilities in advising insurers, reinsurers, asset managers, private equity sponsors and other participants in the insurance market on transactions spanning the insurance lifecycle.
