Independent insurance broker Lockton has announced the launch of its Global Data Center and Digital Infrastructure practice, a consulting practice that helps organizations address risks associated with the infrastructure that stores, processes and moves information.
The practice further builds on Lockton’s experience supporting complex digital infrastructure risks globally, including hyperscale campuses, multi-building developments, phased construction plans, operating portfolios and power-related infrastructure.
The specialized practice integrates risk strategy, analytics, engineering insights and market expertise into a consulting model and serves the entire ecosystem, including owners, operators, developers, investors, hyperscalers and technology providers. The team supports clients from project planning through construction, operational launch, portfolio expansion and ongoing risk management.
Solutions will be tailored to each client’s needs, with the practice offering a suite of products and proprietary solutions covering construction and property risks, errors and omissions, service level agreements, environmental risks, cyber, assurance and more.
James Nelson will lead the U.S. Data Center and Digital Infrastructure practice and Sam Baker will lead the U.K. Data Center and Digital Infrastructure practice, both working with Lockton global leaders to drive overall strategy.
Nelson has 15 years of insurance industry experience and joins Lockton from Eldin Risk Partners, where he most recently served as global head of client engagement. Prior to that, he worked at Marsh, Cerberus Capital and Alvarez & Marsal, where he advised clients on complex risk strategies.
Baker has been with Lockton for 13 years, advising clients around the world on innovative insurance solutions. Over the past several years, he has been at the forefront of creating Lockton data center proprietary products.
“Data centers are at the heart of how the modern world operates, and the risk landscape behind the infrastructure has become increasingly interconnected, capital-intensive and time-sensitive,” said Tim Ryan, president of Lockton US.
“Organizations need consultants who understand the entire life cycle, from planning and site selection to ongoing operations and scale. Our practice is designed to advise clients so they can navigate this complexity with confidence.”
“The global data center and digital infrastructure market is evolving at an astonishing pace,” said Chris Brown, CEO of Lockton International. “Lockton’s independent model allows us to bring together global expertise from around the world to tailor solutions around each client’s business and provide advice that goes well beyond traditional insurance placements.”
“Our role is to help clients build and operate critical infrastructure from projects to portfolios with greater resiliency, certainty and confidence,” added Ryan. “When risk is proactively managed, organizations can spend less time grappling with complexity and more time focused on growth and innovation.”
