Liberty Specialty Markets (Liberty), the specialty insurance and reinsurance arm of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has named Richard Richards as its new Head of Property Direct and Facultative (D&F), effective 2 November 2026.
The London-based appointment will see Richards take charge of the insurer’s property D&F operations in the capital, reporting directly to Kevin Demmon, divisional director of property for the UK and MENA.
Richards will oversee the performance and management of its London property D&F portfolio, while determining the team’s strategic priorities. His role will include supporting long-term growth objectives, with an emphasis on maintaining underwriting standards and portfolio performance.
Demmon added: “We are delighted to welcome Richard to the team as we continue to develop and enhance our property D&F portfolio. His wealth of knowledge across the D&F market will help Liberty to continue to augment its international property offering.”
Richards has worked in the property D&F sector for more than two decades, including a 10-year tenure with Chaucer Syndicates as a senior class underwriter. Earlier in his career, he also held positions at Allianz and Zurich.
