MSIG USA, the U.S. insurance subsidiary of global insurer MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, has appointed Karla Scott as head of freight and logistics, further strengthening its ocean platform and expanding its capabilities.

Drawing on her more than 25 years of experience in ocean freight, logistics, inland marine and hull underwriting, Scott will lead the strategic direction of MSIG USA’s freight and logistics operations.

Tasked with overseeing underwriting strategy, portfolio management and market engagement, she will also work closely with underwriting and distribution leadership to enhance the company’s freight capabilities, deepen broker relationships and support customers.

In his new role, Scott will report to Dennis Marvin, MSIG USA’s director of marine, who commented: “Cara is one of the most respected leaders in the marine insurance industry.

“Her deep underwriting expertise, broker relationships and track record of building profitable trucking portfolios make her an outstanding addition to our team to lead the next phase of growth for our trucking and logistics businesses.”

Scott joins MSIG USA from The Hartford, where she most recently led the company’s logistics product strategy and ocean freight operations for the Western region.

During her career, she held leadership positions at Markel, Alterra and Allianz, building and scaling ocean underwriting organizations, managing complex cargo portfolios and delivering profitable growth in varying market conditions.

“As supply chains become increasingly interconnected, freight and logistics risks continue to evolve,” said Peter McKenna, CEO of MSIG USA. “Karla’s appointment reflects our commitment to investing in expert talent and building market-leading capabilities in areas where we see significant growth opportunities.”
