James River’s net income rises 59% to $4.4m in Q2’26

James River Group Holdings, Inc., an insurance holding company, has reported net income available to common shareholders of $4.4 million, up 59% from $2.8 million in the same period a year earlier.

For the quarter, gross written premiums declined 29% to $268.9 million from $378 million in Q2’25.

Net written premiums stood at $148.4 million, down 16% from $176 million, while net earned premiums were $139.0 million, down 9% from $152.6 million.

Total revenues amounted to $161.3 million, down from $174.8 million in the prior-year quarter.

The group’s combined ratio for the quarter was 100.2%, up from 98.6%, comprising a lower loss ratio of 66.3% versus 68.1%, but a higher expense ratio of 33.9% versus 30.5%.

The Excess and Surplus Lines combined ratio was 92.8%, comprising an expense ratio of 27.4% and a loss ratio of 65.4%, compared with a combined ratio of 91.7% in the prior-year quarter.

Net investment income decreased slightly to $20.3 million from $20.5 million a year earlier.
