Reinsurance broker Howden Re has announced the appointment of Jay Sogliuzzo as managing director, head of North American marine, energy and terror specialty treaties.

Sogliuzzo brings 14 years of underwriting experience covering upstream energy, oceangoing marine and inland marine and has developed relationships with clients and underwriters across North America.

He joins Howden Re from Gen Re, where he was responsible for interim and treaty reinsurance work in the marine and energy markets.

Most recently, he served as vice president and senior underwriting specialist, underwriting all marine reinsurance business, including treaty and temporary business, in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Howden Re said the appointment reflects its continued investment in its global ocean, energy and terror platforms and its commitment to expanding its expertise in North America.

As geopolitical tensions, energy security and supply chain resilience reshape the global risk landscape, clients are increasingly seeking integrated advice on ocean, energy and political violence risks, backed by local expertise and global market insights.

Recent events have highlighted how quickly disruption to strategically important trade routes can impact maritime, energy and specialty markets.

Howden Re notes that the chaos around the Strait of Hormuz has heightened underwriting scrutiny, reshaped risk appetite and reinforced the importance of understanding cumulative geopolitical risks in the interconnected mix of maritime, energy and political violence. While global reinsurance markets remain resilient, the evolving risk landscape is driving demand for expertise and local market leadership.

North America offers significant opportunities for the marine, energy and terror markets, driven by the large concentration of offshore energy, marine infrastructure and cargo exposure, particularly in the Gulf Coast region. As global trade flows, energy markets and supply chains become increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical fluctuations, clients require specialized risk transfer solutions that combine local market expertise with global insights.
