Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd (Labuan Re) has appointed Chan Swee Chee as the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), effective 14 September 2026.
In his new role, Chan will lead Labuan Re’s underwriting function and support the continued growth and development of the reinsurer’s business across its markets.
Chan has over 28 years of industry experience, with extensive expertise in treaty and facultative reinsurance across Asia, including the Middle East. Additionally, he has held senior leadership positions across the reinsurance, direct insurance and broking sectors.
Previously, Chan was the Principal Officer at Royal & Sun Alliance Re and CUO of Samsung Re in Singapore and Asia Capital Re-Takaful, based in Bahrain.
He also served as General Manager at Royal & Sun Alliance in Singapore and as Operations Director at JLT Re.

Recently, AM Best placed Labuan Re’s Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of “a-” (Excellent) under review, with developing implications, following the announcement of MNRB Holdings Berhad (MNRB) entering into a conditional share purchase agreement to acquire an 80% equity interest in Labuan Re for approximately $100.69 million.
Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad (Malaysian Re), MNRB’s wholly owned subsidiary, currently holds a 20% equity stake in Labuan Re.
When the transaction is complete in Q4’26, Malaysian Re will retain its existing stake, while MNRB will hold the remaining 80%, making Labuan Re a wholly owned subsidiary of MNRB.
