Catalina Re, a provider of capital management and risk transfer solutions to the global insurance industry, has appointed Peter Mason as group chief risk officer.

Catalina Re’s former group chief risk officer Andrew Pryde has left to join SiriusPoint as group chief risk officer, effective September 2025.

Mason joins Catalina Re from the Bermuda Monetary Authority where he served as Deputy Director. During this time, he led regulatory initiatives such as derivatives regulation, stress testing and yield curve reform, and worked closely with US and UK regulators to strengthen solvency frameworks and cross-border reinsurance regulation.

Prior to that, Mason spent nearly eight years with pension insurance companies, most recently as deputy director of ALM.

Mason commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, particularly the opportunity to lead the development of the regulatory framework and strengthen Bermuda’s stress testing framework. Working with regulators around the world has provided an invaluable global perspective on resilience and the high-level standards that define our industry. I am extremely grateful to the outstanding professionals with whom I have worked, both within the Bermuda Monetary Authority and within the international regulatory community.

“The CRO role at Catalina Re presents a compelling set of challenges. I look forward to tackling the multidimensional complexities of overseeing a diverse portfolio spanning both long-term and traditional property and casualty businesses. Balancing these diverse risk profiles requires a complex approach to ALM and investment strategies, and I am eager to lead the risk function in the next phase of the company’s growth.”
