Ben Affleck has set the record straight on his nude scene in the action thriller Gone Girl.
Towards the end of David Fincher’s film, Ben and Rosamund Pike’s characters take a shower together – but rather than being an act of intimacy, this is the couple’s way of discussing the events of the movie while showing to one another that they’re not wearing a wire.
Over the years, there’s been speculation as to whether or not Ben wore a prosthetic for the brief full-frontal moment, which he was asked about directly during a new interview with Variety.
“I wore no prosthesis,” he insisted, before joking: “I’ve only worn one in one film, Hollywoodland. It was a nose.”
On stage at the Hollywood Film Awards in 2014, Ben joked: “I want to take this opportunity to thank David for the way he treated me.
“In particular, we had a shower scene in the movie. And David assured me, because trust is essential with directors and actors: ‘Listen, if we tilt down we will never go far enough to see anything’. So thank you David.
“And I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool. Because if you are gonna have one chance for America to see your junk you want it to be cold. It’s a real gift.”
More recently, Ben told Letterboxd: “I think [David Fincher is] one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live. I love him.
“I fell in love with him and got to know him and adore him. His spirit, his genius. He really is one of these few people who has the taste of an artist and the mind of an engineer. Those things don’t typically seem to come together.”
He added: “I was willing to do anything for him… like be naked.”
