AXA XL, the insurance and reinsurance division of global insurer AXA, has named Tim Brewer as Head of Commercial Bonds for the Americas, placing him in charge of the company’s regional commercial surety operations and their strategic development.
Brewer will be responsible for directing its Commercial Bonds business across the region, including setting product priorities, managing underwriting performance and identifying opportunities for profitable growth.
As part of the appointment, Brewer will report directly to Sylvain Bouteillé, Chief Underwriting Officer, Specialty, Americas. His role will cover management of the company’s commercial bonds portfolio, the delivery of business initiatives and the development of relationships with insurance brokers and corporate clients.
Bouteillé said: “Tim brings deep commercial surety expertise, strong market relationships, and a proven track record of delivering results. AXA XL is one of the market leaders of the Commercial Bonds market and we keep growing and gaining market shares. Under Tim’s leadership, our team is well positioned to meet our clients and broker partners needs and to keep delivering innovative solutions and exceptional service.”
Brewer joins the insurer following a career spanning more than 20 years in the commercial surety sector. His previous position was National Field Director, Commercial Surety, at Skyward Specialty Insurance, where he worked before taking up his new role at AXA XL.
His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, alongside a Master of Business Administration from Troy University. Brewer has also obtained the Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) designation.
AXA XL indicated that the leadership change aligns with its broader plans for its Large Commercial and Specialty operations in the Americas, where commercial bonds form part of the insurer’s underwriting activities.
Matt Waters, Chief Underwriting Officer, Large Commercial & Specialty, Americas, added: “As we continue to execute on our growth ambitions across Large Commercial and Specialty, we remain focused on investing in the talent, expertise and capabilities that strengthen our ability to serve brokers and clients. Commercial Bonds is a key component of that strategy, and Tim’s experience, market insight and underwriting expertise position us well to capitalise on opportunities and further enhance our offering.”
