ASR appoints Alexander Milne as Director of International Policy and Partnerships

African Specialty Risks (ASR), the developing markets-focused re/insurance group, has announced the appointment of Alexander Milne as director of international policy and partnerships.

In this role, Milne will lead strategic partnerships with governments, development finance institutions, donors and philanthropic organizations to support ASR’s initiatives on resilience, climate finance and de-risking in emerging markets.

He will focus on advancing ASR’s public-private partnerships to expand insurance solutions, promote investment in emerging economies, and help governments address critical resilience challenges. He will work closely with ASR colleagues and partners in the development and finance ecosystem to expand impact.

Milne brings more than a decade of experience as a diplomat in the UK government, working on trade, development and climate finance, with much of his work focused on emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

Most recently, he served as co-head of global business origination at UK Export Finance, focusing on clean growth, low- and middle-income countries and intergovernmental partnerships.

Prior to this, Milne led TheCityUK’s international work streams across key markets in Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East, as well as attendance at international sustainable finance events and COP29. He also worked at the Department for International Trade (DIT) for eight years, most recently as Country Director for Kenya.

He began his career at Lloyd’s of London, where he was responsible for market development in markets including India, TĂĽrkiye, Mexico and Russia.
