Andy Desmond to lead Aon construction for Commercial Risk in UK

Global professional services firm Aon has announced the appointment of Andy Desmond as Head of UK Commercial Risk Construction, effective from 1 July 2026.

Desmond, who has over 25 years of client and brokerage experience, will lead Aon’s UK construction business and will be responsible for building the company’s capabilities and driving growth.

He aims to achieve this by leveraging his deep expertise in risk placement, strategic consulting and integrated solutions, with a focus on supporting construction method innovation and improving outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.

Desmond joins Aon from Marsh UK and Ireland, where he was most recently head of the construction industry practice. Previously, he worked for Kier Group as an insurance manager for 18 years.

“As projects continue to grow in size and duration, there are increasing challenges around capacity, constraints and market participation. Andy’s leadership will support teams that help clients reduce delays, manage cost pressures and ensure smoother construction projects.”

Desmond’s appointment further strengthens Aon’s commercial risk leadership team in the UK. This follows a series of recent senior appointments at the firm, such as Adam Reed as chief commercial officer for prime, complex and enterprise clients and Michelle Beverley as chief brokerage officer.

Other recent appointments include Amy Froude as chief commercial officer, Lucy Gleeson as head of products and facilities, and Chris Scott as head of UK global risk consulting.
