Willis Re, the reinsurance advisory and broking joint venture between Bain Capital (BCIS) and WTW, has hired rival broker Guy Carpenter’s Jim Summers to lead its global specialty business with immediate effect.
As CEO of the company, Summers is responsible for setting strategic direction and driving growth across all professional categories globally.
The CEO will work closely with Willis Re’s senior leadership team to help strengthen the reinsurance broker’s international platform and support its growth ambitions.
Summers is a well-known and respected market leader with over forty years of industry experience in the Lloyd’s and international reinsurance brokerage markets. He has expertise across global specialty categories and brings to Willis Re deep technical knowledge and a proven track record of developing long-term client and reinsurer relationships.
He joined the broker in 2011 and most recently served as Guy Carpenter’s deputy CEO of global specialties and global head of marine and energy specialties. Previously, he served as CEO of Cooper Gay and Co Ltd.
Lucy Clarke, a member of Willis Re’s board of directors, said: “Jim is one of the most respected leaders in the global specialty market with a strong track record of building long-term client partnerships and high-performing businesses, making him an outstanding addition to Willis Re’s leadership team. As we continue to build a modern, client-centric reinsurance brokerage, Jim will play a key role in enhancing our market position and helping shape the future of our global business.”
Summers commented: “Willis Re is a forward-thinking reinsurance brokerage built around evolving client needs. The opportunity to join the firm at this stage in its growth is incredible. The firm has a clear vision and is underpinned by a strong leadership and collaborative culture. I look forward to working with colleagues across the organization to strengthen our professional capabilities and provide exceptional support to clients operating in an increasingly complex global risk environment.”
