Between the lavish East Of Eden, the gripping fourth season of The Diplomat and the surprise hit Below, October was a great month for Netflix originals.

And with stormy, wet weather outside, November is an opportune time to close the curtains, shut off the outside world and enjoy some more of the best new offerings from the streaming service.

A selection of what we’ll be streaming on Netflix in the next few weeks

In the coming weeks, the platform is bringing us the return of a spy drama favourite starring Keira Knightley, a Korean domestic drama that’s already tipped for big things at the Oscars and a comedy special from an Abbott Elementary fave.

So, if you’re looking for something new to provide some escapism this November, here are our top picks of Netflix’s upcoming additions…

A Dog’s Perfect Christmas (4 November)

Tell Me More: Christmas is coming early at Netflix this November, thanks to the heartwarming new holiday movie A Dog’s Perfect Christmas.

Dennis Quaid stars alongside Milo Ventimiglia, Jennifer Tilly and Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen in a new tear-jerker film about a lovable Basset Hound who tries to help a grieving grandfather and his granddaughter reconnect.

The film highlights the most important thing about the festive season: being with loved ones and cherishing the moments which matter – even if that’s with your furry family.

Netflix Says: “When a medical emergency pulls the Goss family apart, determined dog Winstead will do all he can to bring his humans back together before Christmas Eve.”

Black Doves (5 November)

Tell Me More: Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw return as Helen and Sam in new episodes of the darkly funny spy thriller Black Doves.

Season two sees Helen’s covert operation becoming even more treacherous as her husband prepares to become prime minister.

The new episodes promise to see loyalties weaponised, trust shattered and secrets uncovered, with Helen and Sam’s mission leading them to new, darker places.

Sarah Lancashire is also back as the ruthless handler and puppet master Mrs. Reed, with One Day’s Ambika Mod joining the fray as a new Black Doves operative, and horror icon Neve Campbell and Control star Sam Riley stepping into mysterious new roles.

Possible Love (6 November)

Tell Me More: After an eight-year hiatus following his critically-acclaimed movie Burning, director Lee Chang-dong returns with Possible Love, one of the buzziest Korean films of the year.

Possible Love follows a laid-off industry worker and his wife, whose trauma is turned into a documentary by a wealthy filmmaker and her entrepreneur husband.

Exploring marriage, class and desire through its two central juxtaposing couples, the film became a huge hit when it debuted at festivals earlier this year.

It currently holds an enviable 100% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Guardian calling Possible Love a “finely judged study of exploitation and friendship” while Empire declared the movie a “sumptuous, slow-burn stunner from a true master of the form”.

Netflix Says: “Hidden desires emerge when a laid-off worker and his wife cross paths with a documentary filmmaker and her husband.”

Janelle James: How Romantic (10 November)

Tell Me More: After earning widespread acclaim for playing scene-stealing Principal Ava Coleman on Abbott Elementary, Janelle James is returning to her stand-up roots with her first-ever hour-long comedy special.

This special sees the comedian and actor offering her perspective on everything from sex to making money, in her own inimitable style.

Netflix Says: “In her debut hour-long stand-up special, Janelle James sounds off on body counts, bank accounts and why women should wrestle men.”

The Body (11 November)

Tell Me More: Halloween might be over for another year, but Netflix still has chills and thrills in store for audiences in the weeks ahead.

Created by Quinn Shephard, the writer-director of mystery Under The Bridge, the eight-part season follows a Catholic school dance troupe, whose latest group initiation has catastrophic results.

Before long, a mass frenzy is engulfing the entire community, with supernatural and religious goings-on being cleverly employed as a metaphor for the ups and downs of teenage girldom.

Netflix Says: “After a dance-team initiation goes wrong, a group of badly behaved Catholic school girls begin having prophetic visions that set off mass hysteria in their town.”

Allen (12 November)

Tell Me More: The live-action sci-fi comedy is essentially what would happen 20 years after the end of ET.

Allen follows Petey, who has spent his whole adult life reminiscing about his childhood friendship with a big-eyed alien. After a traumatic separation, Petey spends his nights broadcasting into deep space with the hope of meeting the extra-terrestrial – named Allen – again.

Netflix Says: “20 years after his encounter with an alien, Petey never moved on. Now his old friend has returned, and the reason why is complicated – and unexpected.”

Heartland (13 November)

Tell Me More: If a thriller is your thing, you’ll want to check out Heartland, starring the Oscar-winning Jessica Chastain as retired country music legend, Misty Jones.

After her niece goes missing, the singer is drawn into Nashville’s murkier side, and discovers her hometown has a dark underbelly.

Co-starring Garret Hedlund, Ross Lynch and Jennifer Nettles, the upcoming movie features original musical performances by the cast alongside tracks from country favourites.

Netflix Says: “A former country music star searches for her missing niece in the underbelly of Nashville.”

Gentle Monster (18 November)

Tell Me More: Léa Seydoux takes the lead in Marie Kreutzer’s hard-hitting film as a woman facing the unthinkable. The French-German drama follows Lucy, a woman whose life is blown apart when her husband is accused of possessing child sex abuse material.

Told from Lucy’s point of view, Gentle Monster slowly unveils the criminal case against her husband, leaving her questioning his relationship with their young son.

When Gentle Monster debuted in Cannes earlier this year, The Guardian praised the “disquieting drama,” in a four-star review, calling the film, “a bleak, pessimistic film with two excellent lead performances”.

Netflix Says: “Gentle Monster follows pianist Lucy whose life unravels after her husband is accused of a shocking crime.”

The Altruists (19 November)

Tell Me More: House Of Guinness’ Anthony Boyle and Inventing Anna’s Julia Garner share the screen in this new drama inspired by the real-life story of “Gen Z’s own Bonnie & Clyde,” Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison.

Sam famously founded a failed cryptocurrency in 2019, which led to his imprisonment for fraud and conspiracy, while Caroline was his partner and CEO of an affiliated trading firm.

Julia and Anthony play “two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye – before they were accused of stealing eight billion dollars”.

Netflix Says: “Young, idealistic and suddenly worth billions, they tried to do good but unleashed the worst in each other; a toxic love story inspired by a real fraud.”

Primetime Preacher$ (20 November)

Tell Me More: In the 1980s, three televangelists ruled the American airwaves. Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart and Jerry Falwell used TV to build media empires and become household names.

Netflix Says: “Primetime Preacher$, investigates the greed, ego, and rivalry that was building behind the pulpit during the golden age of televangelism.”

Steps (20 November)

Tell Me More: A treat for animation fans – and an ideal choice for the whole family to sit around the TV – Steps puts a spin on the classic Cinderella story.

The story follows Cinderella and one of her so-called “evil” stepsisters, Lilith, who are forced to work together to save their family and the kingdom.

Steps is an ambitious retelling which aims to shatter fairytale archetypes with a rebellious leading lady and fleshed-out characters, played by a veritable who’s who of famous voices that includes Daniel Radcliffe, Amanda Seyfried and Peter Dinklage.

Netflix Says: “In this charmingly offbeat action comedy, Cinderella’s ‘evil’ stepsister Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s wand and shatters the story as we know it.”

The Trials Of Karen Read (23 November)

Tell Me More: As ever, there’s also a huge helping of true crime in Netflix’s documentary slate for the month.

The Trials Of Karen Read is a new three-part docuseries that pieces together the controversial trial of a woman who was accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, in January 2022.

The trial went viral last year with internet sleuths dissecting evidence and suspect statements in real time. The three-part documentary will explore the monumental case in detail, featuring interviews with Read herself and her defence attorneys, as well as O’Keefe’s family and friends.

Netflix Says: “An accident, a deadly fight or an elaborate cover-up? This true-crime series digs into the murder trials of Karen Read that sparked viral conspiracies.”

Rob Lowe: The Outsider (24 November)

Tell Me More: St. Elmo’s Fire and The West Wing star Rob Lowe’s life and career gets the Netflix treatment this year.

Directed by Chris Smith, the man behind the popular Fyre Festival and Tiger King docs, this new film promises to reveal how the actor has managed to survive four decades in Hollywood.

Using archival footage and new interviews, the documentary recounts all the public and private moments which shaped the Brat Pack icon.

Netflix Says: “Rob Lowe unpacks decades of fame, setbacks and second acts in this revealing documentary about how he became one of Hollywood’s most enduring stars”

The Hunchback, Soul Of Paris (27 November)

Vincent Cassel in Hunchback, The Soul Of Paris

Tell Me More: Alternatively, if you’re looking for something with more of a historical flair, The Hunchback, Soul Of Paris may be more your thing.

Another subversion of a classic story, this French film reimagines The Hunchback Of Notre Dame as a historical thriller.

Starring Vincent Cassel, the script is inspired by the theories that the character was based on a real-life stone carver in Paris. Set on the eve of the historic July Revolution, the movie sees Quasimodo ruthlessly hunted through a plague-ridden French capital as a doctor tries to run tests on him in hopes of curing cholera.

Netflix Says: “Paris, 1830. As cholera threatens to ravage the city, a hunchback hunted for medical experiments is caught between political turmoil and impossible love.”
