The Baldwin Group launches member-owned captive for construction clients

Insurance distribution company Baldwin Group has partnered with Innovative Captive Strategies to launch Azimuth Re, Ltd., a new member captive insurance group tailored for its construction clients.

Baldwin explained that Azimuth is designed for “forward-looking” construction companies that pay $250,000 or more per year in workers’ compensation, general liability and auto insurance premiums.

The program includes $350,000 in self-insured retention and is reportedly designed for contractors who are committed to employee safety and want greater stability and transparency in their insurance strategies.

“Azimuth brings together high-performing contractors looking for a way to manage risk with greater control and long-term stability,” said Baldwin. “By bringing best-in-class companies under a single, disciplined underwriting approach, members can share risk, gain scale and have the opportunity to benefit from underwriting profits when the group performs well.”

Andy O’Brien, partner at The Baldwin Group, commented: “In today’s ultra-competitive construction environment, the strongest contractors are those that can most effectively balance growth, risk and profitability with precision and discipline. As we move towards 2026 and beyond, we expect volatility in many key areas of the construction insurance market.

“By creating a best-in-class contractor peer group and equipping them with industry-leading risk management, claims and safety consulting, we are building a model designed to transcend the standard insurance market while helping our clients turn risk management discipline into a competitive advantage.”

Greg Deems, senior partner at The Baldwin Group, added: “What sets Azimuth apart is its collective responsibility model. All members operate under a single broker model and a shared, disciplined risk perspective. But we go beyond placement coverage – our construction experts help guide member selection, risk strategy and long-term performance to protect the group’s strength.

“Shared accountability drives stronger, more sustainable results. This won’t be our only captive solution, we serve any client looking for a captive model. This will be where our like-minded top employees can outperform the market while being at the forefront of creativity in terms of structure and returns.”
