Specialist Risk Group (SRG), an insurance intermediary backed by Warburg Pincus and Temasek, has expanded its global presence with the launch of Australian operations.
SRG has positioned itself as an agile challenger focused on the mid-market, combining its global reach with a highly qualified local team, bringing long-term relationships and deep understanding of the Australian insurance market.
Specialist Risk Group Group CEO Warren Downey said: “Following our expansion into Asia Pacific and the development of our European platform, launching SRG in Australia is a natural next step in the international strategy we have executed in recent years.
“Our ambition is to build a truly international specialty insurance group, focused on markets that truly require deep expertise, strong relationships and international capabilities. Australia is a complex, outward-looking market and by combining high-quality local leadership with the strengths of our international platform, we will continue to build SRG in a way that is thoughtful, connected and designed for long-term growth.”
The new Australian operation will be fully integrated with SRG’s existing international platform, which includes London, Singapore and Europe. This gives customers access to SRG’s global expertise delivered through a dedicated local service model.
Initially, the Australian business will focus on specialized capabilities in the entertainment, media and sports sectors, with additional capabilities to be developed in the near future, the announcement said.
SRG’s approach in Australia mirrors the model that underpins its growth elsewhere: building teams around deep expertise, entrepreneurial decision-making and a culture that attracts great talent.
Laurence Basell, Managing Director of SRG Australia, commented: “We are excited to launch SRG in Australia with a clear focus on the mid-market and a team of highly qualified experts with a deep understanding of this market.
“There is a real opportunity here to do things differently, combining strong local relationships with the international strength of the wider SRG platform, and supporting it with technology that makes it easier to work with us and deliver a direct, high-quality experience to customers and partners. Opening in Sydney and Melbourne is just the start and we look forward to growing the business further over the year.”
