Robert Pattinson is full of praise for filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, following the news that the Oscar winner is stepping in to help finish the new Batman movie.
The former Twilight star began filming on The Batman Part II over the summer, marking his second outing as the Caped Crusader.
However, production was abruptly put on ice earlier this month, after director Matt Reeves was forced to step away from the project to “focus” on “a family matter”.
Since then, it’s been announced that Soderbergh – whose past credits include Sex, Lies, And Videotape; Erin Brokovich; Ocean’s Eleven and Magic Mike – was joining the project.
A spokesperson for DC Studios explained: “As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2.
“Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”
Rob has since enthused to Games Radar: “I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt. It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless.
“I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit’ – and to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”
Explaining his role behind the scenes of The Batman Part II, Soderbergh previously said: “Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent.
“The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
Rob’s first outing as Batman was finally released to cinemas in 2022, having faced numerous delays due to the Covid pandemic.
Its sequel has also been hit with several roadblocks, most notably the Hollywood strikes of 2023 and scheduling conflicts brought about by its lead actor’s commitments with The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three.
The Batman Part II is currently slated for release in 2028.
