Global reinsurer Munich Re has appointed Marco Petrovic as head of networks for Asia (excluding Greater China) and Johanna Roman as head of networks for Australia, Greater China and Africa.

In his new role, Petrovic will relocate back to Asia in August to advance Munich Re’s network ambitions in this strategically important, high-potential region.

He will be based in Singapore and report to Haruka Narahashi, head of treaty underwriting, Korea and Japan, Cyber Asia (excluding Greater China).

Since joining the reinsurer in 2005, Petrovic has held a range of roles in casualty and cyber underwriting, including business development. Most recently, he led Munich Re’s network business in Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa in Munich.

In his new role, effective from 1 July 2026, Roman will be responsible for the reinsurer’s network business in Australia, Greater China and Africa. Based in Sydney, she reports to Kitty Ho, Head of Underwriting Australia.

Roman has over twenty years of experience in the reinsurance market and held a variety of reinsurance buying, claims and underwriting roles before joining Munich Re in 2022 as Australian Casualty and Cyber Underwriting Manager.

Petrovic commented: “While mature markets benefit from broader claims experience and greater transparency, limited loss data in less mature markets should not be mistaken for lower malicious or non-malicious risks.

“These markets require greater underwriting discipline and prudent risk selection. Sustainably closing the cyber protection gap – which remains the highest globally in Asia – will depend on combining technical rigor with insurance solutions that reflect how cyber risks evolve.”

Roman added: “Cyber insurance is poised to evolve, but closing the protection gap requires industry experts to align on risk insights, modeling and discipline capabilities.

“By leveraging strong underwriting expertise, threat intelligence, claims data analytics and advanced cumulative modeling, our team is committed to translating evolving cyber threats and risks into effective insurance solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers in the Asia-Pacific market.”
