Milliman, Inc., a global consulting and actuarial firm, has established a new business advisory practice in the UK as it broadens the support it provides to organisations across the insurance, investment, and retirement sectors.

The firm has appointed Callum Mayor and David Laird as managing directors to lead the new practice. Milliman said the appointments form part of its efforts to provide clients with additional support on strategic, operational and organisational challenges.

“There’s never been more pressure on insurers and asset managers to turn strategy into results,” commented Mayor. “This new practice adds to Milliman’s deep sector expertise with the pace and hands-on experience needed to deliver lasting change for our clients.”

Milliman said its business advisory offering will bring together the firm’s existing technical and sector expertise with practical consulting capabilities. The practice will work with clients on areas including business transformation, operational change and the implementation of strategic initiatives.

According to Milliman, financial services organisations are having to respond to a combination of regulatory requirements, market volatility, technological developments, artificial intelligence adoption and ongoing pressure on costs. The new practice is intended to complement Milliman’s existing services, as well as its recently launched AI Solutions practice.

The firm’s UK business advisory services will cover post-transaction integration, operating model transformation, change management, data, AI and technology, risk, regulation and resilience, and finance and actuarial transformation.

Mayor brings 25 years of experience working with boards and executive teams on transformation, growth and integration across financial services. He joins the firm from Wavestone, where he was a partner focused on the insurance sector, and previously held a partnership role at PEN Partnership.

Laird joins Milliman from Wavestone, where he led the wealth and asset management practice. He has also held senior positions at PEN Partnership, KPMG and EY. Laird has more than 25 years of experience advising organisations on strategic change across the insurance and asset management sectors.

The appointments give Milliman’s new UK practice senior expertise across insurance, wealth and asset management, supporting the firm’s wider advisory work in financial services.
