Global reinsurer Munich Re has announced a number of key leadership appointments within its claims organization, all effective June 1, 2026.

In light of his retirement at the end of November, current head of single risk claims Michal Mekota will resign.

In this role, he will serve as a senior executive advisor, focusing on strategic projects while reporting directly to Claudia Hasse, CEO, Global Claims

Matthias Meyer will bring his more than two decades of industry experience to succeed Mekota as Head of Single Risk Claims. Munich Re noted that this move will ensure a smooth transition and handover.

Rolf Heintzeler will succeed Meyer in responsibility for reinsurance claims operations in Europe and Latin America. Heintzeler has been with Munich Re for more than 16 years, most recently as head of insurance consulting.

Claudia Hasse, CEO of Global Claims, commented: “I would like to sincerely thank Michal Mekota for his outstanding contribution to our claims organization over the years. His expertise and commitment will continue to be of great value as we further strengthen our global capabilities.

“At the same time, I wish Rolf Heintzeler and Matthias Meyer every success in their new roles. Our claims assertion is a core element of Munich Re’s strategic plan Ambition 2030 and I am confident they will play a key role in driving our organization forward.”
