Markel International, the specialty insurance arm of Markel Group Inc., has appointed Camilla Roughan as senior energy underwriter, effective immediately.
In his new role, Roughan will be responsible for underwriting Markel’s upstream and midstream energy portfolio. Her responsibilities include strengthening underwriting discipline while further developing relationships with brokers and clients.
By refining portfolio focus and enhancing risk selection, she expects to provide clients with a more consistent and transparent approach to managing increasingly complex energy risks.
She will also contribute to improving internal processes across the energy team, with a focus on making submission processing more efficient and responsive. The move is designed to provide brokers and insureds with faster and clearer guidance on underwriting intentions and coverage, while improving the overall insurance signing experience.
Based in London, Roughan is part of the Marine & Energy group and will report to Tim Foister, Head of Upstream Energy.
Roughan has more than 20 years’ experience in the energy insurance sector, covering upstream and midstream operations, offshore construction and international energy projects. Prior to joining Price Forbes, she served as a senior broker and account manager, managing major North American and international accounts.
Her early career included senior roles with KM Dastur Limited and Lockton Companies International, where she established strong connections in key global markets including London, Singapore, India, Latin America and the Middle East.
She began her underwriting career at Wellington Underwriting and Catlin UK, gaining experience in technical areas such as peer review, summary entry and actuarial modeling.
Foster added: “The upstream and midstream energy sectors are operating in an increasingly complex risk environment; from volatile commodity markets and geopolitical tensions, to rapidly changing supply chain pressures and intense scrutiny of operational resilience. These challenges require underwriting expertise that is both technically sound and commercially grounded.
“Camilla’s extensive international brokerage and underwriting background, coupled with her deep understanding of complex energy projects, positions her to support clients as they navigate the evolving landscape. Her ability to translate technical details into clear, actionable insurance solutions will strengthen our offering and ensure we continue to deliver the high-quality, responsive support our clients expect and value from Markel.”
