U.S. insurance company Kemper Corporation announced the appointment of Eric Kappler as executive vice president and president of property and casualty insurance, effective July 30, 2026.
Kapler replaces Matthew Hunton, who is leaving the company after seven years.
In his new role, Kappler will lead Kemper’s unified property and casualty organization, which includes specialty personal and commercial vehicle product lines and property and casualty claims operations. He will report to Kemper President and Chief Executive Officer Stephen J. McAnena.
Kappler brings more than two decades of leadership experience in the property and casualty insurance industry, including expertise in the non-standard automotive market.
Throughout his career, he has led large organizations, developed long-term business strategies, built high-performing teams, and responded to changing market conditions.
He joins Kemper after 23 years at Farmers Insurance, most recently as president of Bristol West Insurance, where he led a multi-billion dollar business that delivered strong underwriting and financial performance by improving profitability, driving organic growth, expanding distribution capabilities and investing in pricing, underwriting and digital innovation.
“Eric is an accomplished insurance executive with extensive experience across our businesses and an impressive track record,” said McAnena. “His leadership and experience will help us continue to strengthen our business and position Kemper for long-term success as we execute on our strategic priorities. I look forward to welcoming him to our leadership team. I also want to thank Matt for his leadership and contributions to Kemper and wish him every success in the future.”
“Kemper has a meaningful opportunity to build on its strengths, and I look forward to working with Steve and the P&C team to help drive the business forward,” Kappler added. “I have great respect for the people and experience throughout the organization, and I’m eager to get started supporting Kemper’s agents and customers.”
