Kathleen Turner has spoken out after her former co-star Michael Douglas admitted for the first time that they previously had an affair.
The two Hollywood icons first shared the screen in 1984’s Romancing The Stone, with Michael writing in his new memoir that things between himself and Kathleen turned romantic around this time.
He recalled: “The chemistry I had with Kathleen Turner was so strong, audiences have been certain for years that we were in a relationship together while making the film.”
“The official story went as follows: Yes, we confessed, we had amazing chemistry. Yes, we were both, as Kathleen said, ‘terrible flirts’,’ and yes, we were both tempted, but nothing ever happened between us,” he continued. ”That was a lie.”

Pointing out at the time that he and his then-wife Diandra Douglas had separated, he claimed that he “fell hard” for Kathleen, claiming: “We found each other first as friends, then as co-stars, and finally as lovers.”
In a statement to People magazine, Kathleen said over the weekend: “Good heavens what a fuss about something 40 years ago!”
She added: “I love Michael and I look forward to enjoying the book.”
Robert Zemeckis’ Romancing The Stone centred around a lonely romance novelist who finds herself at the centre of an adventure befitting of one of her books, when she and a brash American smuggler must embark on an international mission to rescue her sister.

After Romancing The Stone, Kathleen and Michael would go on to work together numerous times.
The following year, they reunited in The Jewel Of The Nile, coming together once again in 1989’s The War Of The Roses, which was recently reimagined as the dark comedy The Roses, co-starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Even as recently as 2018, both Michael and Kathleen joined the cast of the Netflix dramedy The Kominsky Method, which ran for three seasons before coming to an end in 2021.
