James Blunt has revealed there was a lot more to James Acaster’s dramatic exit from The Celebrity Traitors than viewers got to see.

The two Jameses both made it to the penultimate day in TV’s most famous castle, which ended with the stand-up comic coming clean to his fellow contestants about his secret Traitor status, after facing a particularly zealous grilling.

However, in a new interview with the BBC, the You’re Beautiful singer suggested that his co-star’s departure didn’t quite play out as it came across on screen.

“He didn’t fall on his sword. That’s what you saw, that’s what you feel, but he didn’t,” James claimed, revealing that it was a lie about Ross Kemp’s murder weapon – the now-infamous perfume bottle – that led to the comedian’s undoing.

The Brit Award winner continued: “You didn’t see the full extent of the interrogation. It was heavy in there and it was clear-cut. He was pinned to a post. We got him. We really, really got him.

“I think how that played out hasn’t really been revealed to you, but he didn’t just say, ‘Oh guys, you got me’.”

“No matter what really went on in that castle, you’re a victim to the edit,” the chart-topper concluded.

“I went, ‘Surely that’s going in the edit’,” the Off Menu host recalled of the incident. “No! Nowhere to be seen!”

James Blunt, meanwhile, made it all the way to the final three in Celebrity Traitors, but ended up causing his own exit when he chose to keep the game going at a point when eventual winners Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft had wanted to end it as a three-piece team with him.
