Independent specialty MGA HIVE Underwriters has announced the appointment of Polly Mays as Head of Cargo, bringing a decade of experience in the cargo insurance market, and extensive expertise across cargo, stock throughput, excess stock and project cargo risks.
Joining from Sompo, Mays has established a strong reputation as a senior cargo underwriter.
Before her time at Sompo, the executive served at CNA Hardy, where she wrote both lead subscription business in the Lloyd’s market and 100% company paper.
This background provided her with broad experience across both distribution models and an extensive network spanning the retail and Lloyd’s markets.
Her appointment further strengthens HIVE’s Marine division as the business continues to expand its underwriting capabilities across global specialty markets.
She will be joining the company in November once her contractual obligations with her current employer are complete, and report to HIVE’s Head of Marine, Alistair Marriott,.
In her new position, Mays will lead the continued development of the MGA’s Cargo proposition as part of its growing Marine division, which focuses on specialist marine risks through disciplined underwriting, data-led decision making and long-term broker partnerships.
HIVE’s Marine division specialises in technically complex marine risks, including Marine Cargo, Marine Liability, Transportation & Logistics, Marine War and Marine Miscellaneous.
Focused on practitioner-led underwriting, data-driven risk selection and long-term portfolio performance, the division forms a key part of HIVE’s expanding specialty underwriting platform.
