Gallagher Re, an international reinsurance broking and advisory business, has introduced two global leadership positions focused on analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), with Ed Messer and Jason Harger appointed to oversee the respective functions from 1 January 2027.

The appointments, which remain subject to transition and succession planning arrangements, will see Messer take up the position of Global Head of Analytics, while Harger will become Global Head of AI Transformation.

Gallagher Re said the organisational changes reflect its plans to increase the use of analytical tools and AI technology across the business, with the aim of supporting client services, internal operations and future development.

Messer moves into the global position after serving as the company’s Head of UK Analytics. He will be tasked with overseeing its worldwide analytics operations, establishing priorities for the function and developing the use of analytical insights in business decisions and client advisory work.

The new reporting structure will bring regional analytics teams, alongside leaders responsible for global clients, products and specialist practices, under Messer’s supervision.

According to Gallagher Re, the changes are expected to provide a more integrated approach to analytics, allowing teams in different markets and business areas to work more closely together while improving operational consistency and accountability.

Harger, who previously held the positions of Chief Digital Officer and Head of Analytics for Gallagher Re North America, will assume responsibility for coordinating the company’s AI transformation programme.

His role will cover the introduction and wider application of AI technologies across Gallagher Re’s geographical markets, business divisions and corporate functions.

Harger will focus on converting its broader AI strategy into practical projects intended to support client outcomes, streamline workflows, improve staff productivity and explore additional commercial opportunities.

Tom Wakefield, Chief Executive Officer of Gallagher Re, commented: “Analytics and artificial intelligence are increasingly central to how we help clients navigate a more complex and interconnected risk environment. The creation of these new global leadership roles reflects our commitment to investing in the capabilities, expertise and innovation that will define the future of reinsurance broking.

“Ed and Jason are exceptional leaders whose experience, vision, and deep understanding of our business make them ideally suited to take on these roles. Together, they will help strengthen our ability to deliver differentiated insights, improve decision-making and create greater value for clients around the world.”
