We were honestly barely over the surprise of Colin Farrell’s look in The Penguin when we first clapped eyes on an unrecognisable Tom Cruise in character in his new movie Digger.

Now, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has become the latest star to undergo a complete transformation in the name of filmmaking.

On Tuesday, the Moana star was pictured out and about in Brooklyn, New York while shooting his latest film Lizard Music.

It’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as you’ve never seen him before

Donning a drab outfit including a beige overcoat and matching bucket hat, as well as a grey wig, facial hair and prosthetics to make him look older, the former WWE star looked a far cry from his usual self as he was snapped crossing the street, riding the bus and walking arm in arm with his young co-star Theo Leber.

Lizard Music marks the second collaboration between The Rock and director Benny Safdie, who previously helmed 2025’s The Smashing Machine.

In the new movie, Johnson plays a 70-year-old known as Chicken Man, with Variety noting that his transformation was overseen by the same team as Tom Cruise’s in Digger.

Based on the children’s book of the same name, Mubi has described the film as a “fantasy family adventure”, with an official logline teasing: “A young boy stumbles upon strange lizard musicians on late-night TV, leading him to befriend a peculiar man with an elderly chicken.

Believe it, folks – that’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Johnson’s character, meanwhile, has been described as a “whimsical, eccentric 70-something year-old”, with the actor noting that he went about shedding around 30 pounds of muscle to help him embody the character.

“I’m so excited to get a chance to hopefully transform again like I was able to do in Smashing Machine,” he enthused last year. “[It means] eating less chicken.”

Lizard Music is slated for release in December next year.
