Markel Insurance, the insurance arm of Markel Group, has announced the appointment of Bhavik Desai as Managing Director of its London market business, PFR and Networks.
Desai succeeds David Sawyer, who will remain with the company until his planned retirement at the end of 2026.
In his new role, Desai will be tasked with overseeing underwriting strategy, portfolio performance and broker and client engagement across PFR and Cyber.
He will focus on improving portfolio performance, developing underwriting talent and strengthening Markel’s position in specialty, financial and cyber-related risks.
In addition, Desai will collaborate with other departments, including underwriting, claims, actuarial, distribution and operations, to support insight-led decision-making and modern underwriting practices.
Markel Insurance noted that his leadership will support the company’s continued focus on disciplined underwriting, technical excellence and sustainable growth in complex specialty categories.
Desai, who joined Markel in 2013, brings extensive experience in professional indemnity, media and entertainment and related specialty areas to his new role.
Since joining, the executive has served as A range of senior underwriting positions within the company, including Head of Professional Indemnity and Director of Professional Indemnity, Media and Entertainment.
