Convex receives in principle approval to launch long-tail specialty lines focused syndicate at Lloyd’s

International specialist insurer and reinsurer Convex Group Limited has received in-principle approval to launch Lloyd’s Syndicate 1987, with plans to commence underwriting on July 1, 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

With capabilities to support Convex’s approved business plans, Syndicate 1987 will focus exclusively on long-tail specialty product lines, deploying capabilities across targeted portfolios in casualty re/insurance as well as political risk and trade credit.

Asta will serve as managing agent for the new syndicate, and Allison Hollern, head of financial institutions at Convex, will be the active underwriter.

Paul Brand, CEO of Convex Group, said: “The launch of Syndicate 1987 strategically complements Convex’s first vehicle, Syndicate 1984, which will continue to be dedicated to Convex’s full account reinsurance, while being streamlined to provide international capabilities for direct short tail risks. This dual syndicate structure will provide comprehensive coverage for the international business, ensuring that Convex Able to meet the growing needs of clients and brokers by delivering sustainable, value-added capabilities across the entire spectrum of expertise.”
