International insurance brokerage group Howden today announced the appointment of Christopher Dalrymple as group chief legal officer, effective March 23, 2026.
Dalrymple will bring more than 25 years of legal leadership experience in the insurance and financial services sectors, as well as extensive experience in public corporate governance, private equity and capital markets, to support Howden’s growth ambitions.
He joins Howden from more than 20 years in senior roles at Alleghany Corporation, a re/insurance holding company and former NYSE-listed company that was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2022.
As Allegheny’s general counsel, Dalrymple led an international legal team that advised boards and CEOs on governance and strategic initiatives and played a key role in significant transactions, including complex mergers, acquisitions and public offerings. He has been appointed Group CFO following the recent appointment of Susan Panuccio as Group CFO of Howden.
David Shalders, Group Chief Operating Officer at Howden, commented: “Howden’s ability to attract the best talent sets us apart. It is vital to find a trusted advisor to guide and grow our business as we deliver on our ambitious plans.
“After a long and careful search, I am pleased that we have found in Chris an incredibly respected legal leader with a keen business acumen, deep insurance and reinsurance experience, and a proven track record of leading transformation and growth, including taking companies public. I very much look forward to working with him as we continue to build Howden and continue our growth trajectory.”
Dalrymple added: “After 24 enjoyable and rewarding years at Allegheny, it is truly exciting to have the opportunity to join Howden as it embarks on the next ambitious chapter in its development. The strength and depth of talent at Howden is impressive and I am now eager to be a part of it. Howden has a special culture, energy and client focus and I look forward to supporting Howden as part of the existing experienced and talented legal team.”
